At The Safety Centre we offer a comprehensive service for all installations carried out by our factory trained staff. Our office based team also provides a wide range of advice and services which are outlined below:

Consultancy

Here at the Safety Centre our experienced and highly trained staff can offer a wide range of advice on all aspects of fall protection.

The first question we usually ask is whether the client requires a Fall Arrest or Restraint system. It is important to distinguish between the two, basically we would define them as:

Fall Arrest - a system which mitigates the effects of a fall accident that will stop a workers fall before he hits the surface below

Restraint - a system to prevent a worker from falling from a work position, or from travelling to an unguarded edge from which the worker could fall.

It is the Employers obligation to ensure that a fall protection system is used when work is being carried out at a place where there is a risk of a fall from height which can cause personal injury.

We can advise you on these obligations along with other important areas of consideration when you are planning for work at height, such as:

  • the provision and production of a fall protection plan
  • the selection of suitable PPE to be used when working at height, this includes full body harnesses, lanyards, fall arrest blocks, carabiners etc
  • advice to ensure that any guardrails installed meet the correct requirements
  • force management anchors - defined as a 'secure point of attachment for a lifeline or lanyard.' We can provide information on their requirements with regard to the ultimate load capacity in any direction in which a load may be applied - this will have a bearing on how many users are intended to use to system.

We arrive at the optimum system layout by risk assessing the roof and access requirements either from a detailed site survey or from architects drawings.

By applying the requirements of current Regulations and Codes of Practice we can assure our clients that their maintenance personnel are provided with easy to use systems to reach areas needing attention such as gutters, vents and roof lights.

Installation

All our systems are installed to comply with the manufacturer's instructions and code of practice BS7883. They are then certified in accordance with the appropriate European or British Standard.

All of our on-site work is fully risk assessed and a site specific method statement is issued to our client and our installation teams prior to the commencment of any works.

Our experienced installation teams are CSCS card holders and were appropriate also have CPCS (cherry picker) licences. They have been factory trained in specific installation techniques by the system manufacturer. We are proud of our status as an ISO9002 quality assured installation company and all our work, at all stages from procurement to final commissioning, is carried out within our externally monitored QA regime.

Re-Test & Certification

All works carried out by The Safety Centre are certified upon completion to the required British or European Standard for a 12 month period.

Safety eyebolts and Safety Cable Systems are both installed in accordance with the British Code of Practice, BS 7883.

Clause 12.1.2 of BS 7883 states that, "at least once every 12 months each anchor device should be examined in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions by a competent person authorised by the manufacturer."

Before the original installation certification expires, we write or fax the client with a quotation to re-certify the system. If this is accepted we then attend site and thoroughly examine the system and apply the appropriate test as required. When the successful re-test is finished we will then send out a new certificate valid for the next 12 months.
